Message :down your intake. It's a fixed path so they run out of room, bombard the container they're in, and resist having even more air molecules packed in. A pressure gauge reads these forces as a given pressure.

The intake isn't a closed container, so I wouldn't call it a fixed path. The restriction is caused by resistance to flow. This resistance to flow can be minimized with ported heads, bigger valves, cams, high flow manifolds, and bigger turbos. An engine that flows better will move more air at less boost.
